Conversation with BOLD JOURNEY: How Soke came to be, Anti-aging and Pro-aging, and strategies for dealing with overwhelm

We were lucky to catch up with Amy Newman Brown recently and have shared our conversation below.

Amy, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?

It is important to be comfortable in the uncomfortable moments. There are always moments of self doubt but, understanding that this does not just apply to me in the moment but to most of us, certainly can calm the mind. Embracing the moment of uniqueness and acknowledging that it is okay not to fit in with the crowd and that others feel just like you.

Asking questions and understanding your audience makes everyone comfortable in the moment

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am Amy Newman Brown and I don’t believe in anti-aging, I believe in Pro-aging and we should all choose how we want to age.

As the Aesthetic Director for one of North America’s top plastic surgeons and a long-time skincare fanatic, I’ve had the opportunity to try it all (well, almost). At the same time, I have worked with hundreds of patients helping them choose how they want to age with the best and latest non-invasive treatments available.

I noticed a lot of those patients were looking to improve and maintain their results post-treatment. Especially for the areas that are most commonly neglected and reflect aging the soonest like the eye contour, decolletage and neck.

Having tried countless topicals I knew there had to be a better and less time-consuming way to treat those areas of the body. We are all busy. We simply don’t have the time to sit around with a mask.

This is when I had the idea for Soke Hydrogel Treatment Masks.

At the time I didn’t know it was going to be what it is today. I just knew it had to be simple, comfortable to wear, and actually work.

After going down a rabbit hole of research and talking to half a dozen people I finally found something that would work.

We took the most innovative medical-grade ingredients (currently used by plastic surgeons to accelerate the healing process of the skin) and infused them with a powerful multi-peptide complex to create a true hydrogel treatment mask that tightens, plumps and lifts the skin in as little as 30 minutes.

After two clinical trials that reinforced the results we saw, Soke was born.

Everyone can use Soke, no matter your skin type, age or lifestyle. I believe it is never too early or too late to invest in your skin. Use it any time and anywhere, whether you are busy working behind a screen, chasing your kids around, or simply enjoying life.

Soke blends modern with effective in a way no other skincare does. It truly is the solution that I, and I believe the rest of the world, have been waiting for.

To date we have three treatment masks that target areas of the body that show the earliest signs of aging. I am continually thinking of new opportunities for Soke to expand our line of treatments and to collaborate with other skin care brands.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Most of my work experience has been customer facing or working with a team that is customer facing. I have learnt how valuable consistent and exceptional customer service is in business. The focus should always be on the customer.

Effective and consistent communication is crucial to your business and your team. I believe that maintaining open lines with both your customer and your customer facing team is vital.

Learning to listen and learning when to ask questions is one of the best skills.

Early on in my journey I may not have learnt the value of listening, this does come with time. The best advice I can offer is to learn that it is okay to make mistakes if you learn from each one.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

Is there anyone that doesn’t feel overwhelmed at some point in the day? Today the world feels incredibly fast-paced, so I try to slow down. At the end of the day I take a moment to review all the tasks I completed and make a list for the next day. This strategy allows me to acknowledge everything that I accomplished and look forward to the next day being equally as productive.

I limit my time on social media/ and or my phone as often it induces an incredible amount of stress. Social media often leads us to compare our platforms or ourselves which can be quite a rabbit hole. I take time in the morning to catch up on calls and then move to the tasks at hand and check social media no more than twice a day with a set time limit.
